"Choose Your Own" Day

Choose your own adventure on February 19 from the options below

Join fellow MAiZE family members on a chartered bus for a one-of-a-kind tour custom-crafted by Wayne Bishop. As someone who knows & loves California agriculture, hear just a bit about this tour from Wayne himself...

“The central valley of California is 1.88 million acres of the word’s most productive farmland.  We will taste its fruits: Pie and a tour from a pastry chef and food writer who trained under the famous Alice Waters; Brunch at a restaurant owned by one of the largest queen bee producers in the world; Wine at the most unique and historic winery in the valley (the vineyards are tended by Trappist monks), Almonds and rice at multigenerational fully vertically integrated farms; and field to brewery beer marketed with the tagline “Put Your Lips on a Farmer” (you can get the t-shirt).  We will finish the day at one of the restaurants that turned a small farming town into a dining destination, and hear from the owner who made it happen.

I associate my fondest travel memories with the meals I had and the authentic and inspiring people I met.  If that describes you as well, you need to join me on this tour!”


Itinerary Below:

  • Depart Hilton at 8:00 am
  • Real Pie Company  - intro on the bus, followed by brief tour, then take pie slice with us
  • The Hive - Brunch and shopping. Someone from Olivarez Bee Company, which owns the restaurant, will
    speak to us during the meal about their various operations.
  • New Clairvaux Vineyard - Docent-led tour of grounds followed by wine tasting.
  • Sohnrey Family Foods - almond snack, shop for nuts and other local products
  • Lundberg Family Farms  Organic Rice | Sustainably Grown - rice chip snack, tour of and processing facility
  • Farmers Brewing Co - tour brewery, taste, shop
  • Dinner at Putah Creek Café
  • Arrive back at Hilton at 8:45 pm

For those interested in touring Napa Valley's world-famous wineries, we have reached out to the local visitor bureau and below are 3 recommended choices you may want to consider and book on your own:

Napa Valley Wine Trolley is $125 per person + a wine tasting fee of $30-$40. It
starts at 10:30 am and lasts 5 hours. It does include lunch. This tour is rated 4.5 stars

Platypus Wine Tours costs $119 + $40 wine tasting fee. It starts at 10 am and ends at 5 pm. You tour 3 different vineyards and lunch is included. This tour is rated 4.9 stars

Baldacci Family Vineyards is $125 per person. It is a 90 minute tour and includes
 4 wines and a charcuterie plate. They are rated 5 stars

Are you ready to see the spectacular sights of the San Francisco Bay and sail under the Golden Gate Bridge? Bass Tub is the perfect way to see all the attractions and sightseeing spots with the best view in the house. Bay cruises leave throughout the day every day of the week from 300 Jefferson Street, San Francisco, CA 94133. San Francisco Bay sightseeing cruises are$15 per person and are1 hour long. No reservation is required. The boats at Fisherman's Wharf alternate, so just come down anytime and catch the next outgoing cruise. 


Take a round-trip ferry from Fisherman's Wharf and tour the inside of the Alcatraz prison cellhouse. Step back in time and experience the legendary island that has been a civil war fort, a military prison and one of the most notorious federal penitentiaries in US history.

Also included: Enjoy the historical gardens of Alcatraz, views of San Francisco Bay, and the exhibit: Red Power on Alcatraz: Perspectives 50 Years Later on display in the New Industries Building. Expect to spend 2.5-3 hours on Alcatraz island.

Suggested Airports & Dates

If participating in the pre-conference road trip, plan to arrive in Los Angeles on Feb. 13. Burbank is the closest airport to our hotel in Thousand Oaks/Agoura Hills that night, but LAX may end up being your cheapest flight option.

If skipping the road trip, fly into San Jose on Feb. 16 for the bus tour + conference. Our San Jose hotel (Hyatt Place or House) does offer a free airport shuttle.

All flights home will likely be out of Sacramento on February 19, unless participating in the "choose-your-own" post-conf tour that day and departing on February 20.

The hotel does not offer an airport shuttle, so Uber is likely your best option from the Hilton to the Sacramento airport. If a shuttle becomes available at a later date, we will share details on those costs.

Road Trip Rental Cars or Bus

CARS: The vision of the pre-conference road trip was originally built on driving your own cars & making choices along the route re: how long to linger at each stop, etc. For those participating in the road trip, you'll want to rent a car in Los Angeles on Feb. 13 (or drive your own) and return it to San Jose on Feb. 16, where you can then switch to riding on a bus for the start of our bus tour on Feb. 17. For those who prefer to keep their car & follow buses, you'd want to return your car in Sacramento where the conference concludes. For those interested in carpooling with other attendees, we will email you all a list of road trip attendees in early January so you can reach out to each other if you'd like.

BUS: Because some have expressed interest in riding a bus for the entire road trip instead of driving (Feb 14-16), we've done our best to respond to that request and have made arrangements for up to 2 buses, available first come first serve for a cost of $210 ea. This is a bus seat cost only and does not include registration, which must still be done separately.

Unfortunately two is the maximum number of buses that will fit the scheduling/capacity limits of our road trip itinerary and will be available if they are at least 50% filled. CLICK HERE for details on the bus & to purchase/reserve a seat. Please note that the bus will start on the 14th at the hotel near Underwoods, so you would need to get from the airport to Agoura Hills/Thousand Oaks on the 13th.

*NOTE: The info above refers only to the road trip from Feb. 14-16. The conference registration fee automatically includes a bus tour seat for Feb 17-18.

We encourage all of you to enter by our deadline of February 1. The winner of each category will be recognized at the Corn Party. In addition, there will be a Cash Prize of $100 given to one randomly selected person who enters the Best New Idea category. 

How to Enter

BEST IDEA: Email photos of your ideas to by February 1. Entries will be shown in the Best Ideas Slideshow at the Corn Party. Ideas can range from new attractions, new maze games, alterations to your food operation that increased profitability, new employee hiring/training/incentive ideas, etc. Really anything that either increased revenue, improved the customer experience, improved employee performance or decreased your stress as an owner! Please include a photo or image visually demonstrating the idea and a brief description of how it helped you to be more successful ​.

The annual MAiZE Siteowner’s Conference is a wonderful opportunity to expose your products or services, in a face-to-face setting, with more than 300 of our corn maze operators. Each year, the conference features an intimate vendor display area, where a handful of companies are invited and given permission to share their information with the attendees.
