Gogan's Empanadas
Filling:
- 2 lbs Ground Beef
- 1 Onion
- 1/2 Green Pepper
- 3 Green Onions Sticks
- 3 tablespoons Sazon
- Seasoning (*see note)
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 10 Hard Boiled Eggs (just egg whites)
- 16 Uncooked Tortillas
In a saucepan, cook the Ground beef. Mince the onions, green peppers, and green onions, place them in the sauce pan with the meat and let them cook for 5 minutes. Mince the hard boiled egg whites and add them along with, salt, and sazon seasoning into the pan. Then cover and let simmer for 45 minutes stir occasionally.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Use an empanada press to cut the dough tortillas (buy the uncooked tortillas). Then put in the press and spread filling in half of the tortilla, press tortilla together and put on a cookie sheet. Spread egg whites on top of every empanada. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!
*Note: Sazon seasoning adds such a great flavor! It can be found in most Hispanic markets or online. It can also be made with ½ tablespoon ground coriander, ½ tablespoon ground cumin, ½ tablespoon ground turmeric, ½ tablespoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, ½ tablespoon salt
